House Blackspear
is centered around one of the many lengends of Saint Longinus, a Roman Centurion of Legion X in the Jeruselum area at the time of Christ. Longinus is the Centurion soldier that ends christ's suffering on the cross by piercing Christ side. As the blood splatterd into Longinus's eyes, Christ forgives him for ending his life. The blood that has touched him cures his near blindness at the same time curses him to wander the earth as the soldier eternal.
The BlackSpear household was founded in A.S. XXIII* (1994) as a fighting group in the SCA that serves the fine Barony of Storvik.
BlackSpear has fought as the core of the Barony's fighting unit. The Household has served the Kingdom of Atlantia and Storvik in many Wars and Border scrimmages over the years.
The Storvik unit was awarded the Sharks tooth for actions on the battlefield at the first Kingdom Crusade event. It was the first time this award has been given to a baronial unit.
House Black Spear was proud to be amid the ranks.
Black Spear
takes its name the famous Helilge Lance or Spear Destiny. Unlike other groups that may take on the occult esoteric and sometimes diabloic representations, a Black Spear member's true veneration is to Longinus the Eternal Soldier
Longinus uses a Spear to pierce the side of Christ and end his life. Giving mercy to the savior, but cursed to walk the Earth as Solider until Christ comes again. The Spear becomes a holy relic and can still be seen today in Vienna. A left over treasure of the Hapsburg dynasty. House Blackspear used this mythos to venerate the Eternal Solider through SCA combat.
